Legendary lager

Almost as legendary as the characters that inspired it.

LAGER LAGER LAGER

Lagers sometimes get pigeonholed as light quaffers for when you’ve just mown the lawn. We’re partial to a helles, pils, or dortmunder when refreshment is required, but we also love a lager with a bit more going on.

Tall Tales is a lager to savour – this deep golden Maibock is bracingly strong with the rich complexity from 6 German malts well balanced by stonefruit, passionfruit and berry notes from the German and NZ hops.

wot’s a ‘wolpertinger’?

...Only the perfect mascot for a beer dreamt up by a German and a Kiwi deep in the Karangahake Gorge, that's wot. In German folklore, the wolpertinger is a creature that inhabits the alpine forests of southern Germany. It has the body of a small mammal, but with wings, antlers, fangs, and a tail: it is often depicted as part rabbit, part deer, part pheasant, part squirrel. Like its transatlantic cousin the American jackalope, they are often on display in bars and restaurants, reminding locals and tourists alike of beloved tall tales of adventure and discovery.

Tasting Notes…

A modern maibock, Tall Tales is bracingly strong with rich maltiness well balanced by fruity German and NZ hops.  Characteristic of the style, it is paler than other bocks, with a drier, hoppier finish.
